Wow this course is so close to being an all-time great. The bunker work is really good. The course matches pretty much to the real thing. Here is how you fix that texture problem. You create a duplicate texture which matches the texture which is causing the point problem. Than you go through the course using both textures in places. That way you spread out the points. Each texture can only handle so many points and once it maxes out you get clear textures. Maybe even doing this with a bunker texture also would help.

This is a beautiful, brilliantly designed course. Although it seriously belittled my playing, it is a joy to tackle and just take in the views. Thank you for your excellent tribute to a very classy course.

These Whistling Straits have some dangerous curves on their winding fairways, especially that snaky 5th. Quite a peppering of bunkers, too - all of which could come into play in high winds. But the trap I fell into a coupla times was allowing for a little backspin on my approach shots, only to see my ball roll on over the back of the green. No room for complacency here - great stuff, guys...

It was a bit of a rush job tbh! Still a reasonable representation! C:

Jim,Rob and I built this course using DEM data and as Bobby says the actual plot was a devil to work with! There is some clear spots on hole 11 I think! Personally I would not have uploaded this course here until it had been worked on some more tbh!
I hope Jim is okay as I have not heard from him in weeks!

A few comments here (assuming this is a rerelease of my course):

1. There are some invisible textures on the back 9. Generally you see them in the distance but I don't believe they come into play at any point. I tried for a very long time to get those out and it was just not possible due to the shear amount of elevation change throughout the entire course.

2. Regarding the coast line: The course is so long in one direction that it literally goes from the very top of the architect window to the very bottom. This made it virtually impossible to get an accurate looking shoreline. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a course created with the CA that accurately portrays a lake or ocean coastline the way it should. I tried using an actual lake texture instead of an ocean texture but that caused the course to crash because of the amount of water on the course.

3. This file was created in 2003 and has been revised through several different versions of the Tiger Woods game. During the last revisions, my intent was to accurately replicate the playable areas of the course, rather than all the other visual aspects. I understand that it would be ideal to have a perfect replica, but I think this is as close as you are ever going to get, short of someone spending months and months and months on a new project. This is my favorite course in the world and I hope I was able to do it justice.

Many thanks for releasing this course, I enjoyed playing it. Just one small item - has anyone else noticed invisible textures on holes 11 and 13?

Sorry for my poor topographical knowlegde of the US of A, but my vision about the poor graphical reproduction of the coast- and shorelines remains the same.

tripel43, if you Google Earth Search for: Whistling Straits GC, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, you will see that the course does sit along the western edge of Lake Michigan and 13 of the holes are situated on or close enough to see Lake Michigan. Nice place for a cool dip during the summer months. ed

Thank you. Water is always an issue. The use of a lake surface would probably have served well here as this course is located on Lake Michigan. Rough at times yes, but gentle and almost flat calm at others.

Concerning playing golf, and nothing else, the course is OK.
But I always try to look at the design in an artistic way, and then I'm astonished to see how the ocean comes into sight every time: terrible!
What's the problem with that?
What's the grafical failure?
Should the course architect program be renewed?
Do I have to purchase another PC?
(I know that the designer's team is professional one, so I can hardly believe it's their fault)
Just tell me...

RobC and I agreed that this should be released this week for the PGA Championship, it hasn't been updated since 2010 but should give golfers a good run for their money on extra dry greens
