Stunning design, a visual feast and bursting with creativity. Layout-wise, I didn't *quite* love it as much.. it certainly has the right links feel and some real quality holes (the par 4 3rd and 4th - both rippers - the par 5 16th, a gem - and most of the par 3's are good) but a few of the other holes didn't grab me as much. It's certainly a heck of a challenge though, despite the shortish length and a couple of drive-able par 4's, and it plays beautifully smooth. And again, it's visually amazing - a very impressive creation. Cheers!

What a very unusual course, set in an enclosed parcel of land, surrounded by walls, with the ruins of the Grugwyn Abbey as the main attraction and a lake... as the only escape on one hole !
As Bobby Bolin mentioned below, Hunting Leopard designed this course in 2004 but it still remains very intriguing today, as plenty of holes have some dirt and gorse in the middle of the fairways, "forcing" you to think twice about club selection...
And with plenty of small bushes, gorse, high grass and bunkers, this par 71 links course can be quite tough. After a nice downhill opening par-3 hole and a par-4 2nd, pretty straight, with a wall all along the fairway on the left side, the par-4 3rd hole, one of my favorites, is very tricky as the wall, on the left side, "follows" the fairway to the right before turning sharply left !
As a result, you need to hit your tee shot way to the right to make sure your ball does not end up beyond the wall, in the angle, and out of bounds if you try to cut the corner...
The following sharp dogleg par-4 4th hole is quite scenic with plenty of high grass and bushes on the right side on the way to the downhill green. Other standout holes include the par-4 6th, slightly downhill with trees hiding the green on the right side, and the very picturesque par-5 8th hole, slightly downhill to the left, with patches of high grass and bunkers all along the fairway.
And what about the Abbey ? Well, your first close look at (what is left of) it, will be on the right dogleg par-4 9th hole, as you reach the elevated green.
More dirt and gorse will await you on the back 9, starting with the downhill par-4 10th hole. Then, after the nice up-and-down par-4 11th hole, you will reach the very scenic par-5 13th hole, with its breathtaking view all around as you tee off downhill before hitting your approach shot to the slightly elevated green.
If you are in a gambling mood, then the par-4 15th hole is for you : despite lots of bunkers on both sides of the fairway, you can reach the green from the tee, while looking at the lake beyond the wall on the right side.
Speaking of the lake, the par-5 16th hole will be the first time where you won't see the wall nearby : instead, you will see the very beautiful and undulated fairway, shaped like a question mark, with the green at the end, very close to the lake on the left side !
Your last look at the ruins of the Abbey will take place on the left dogleg par-4 18th hole, and will conclude a very enjoyable round of golf in a very peculiar environment.
Despite a tiny displaying bug on the par-3 17th hole (the right tee marker is... levitating !), Hunting Leopard's Grugwyn Abbey course is still a beautiful exception and a definite keeper in my book !

A classic course from a great designer. Dates all the way back to 2004! Love the strategy involved.

If I'm not wrong, Bing Crosby sang, just after World War 2 the well known song "Don't fence me in".
Some clairvoyance according to this course?
Rather well composed, the song and this course, but I prefer the song.
Nevertheless: thank you Leopard

I am going to give this course 5 stars, I loved it, the choice of textures and libs is brilliant lots of influence going on here nice idea of the fences giving it that St andrews style gorse bushes, along with all manner of rough areas make this really interesting not to mention a few bunkers lying around! My only very small quibble is the texture brick for the abbey made it slightly too modern, a nice granite rock would have been good, but maybe there was no choice of texture for that...hey what do I know anyway this is pure imaginative license for this design. One of the best courses this year in my book.

This is a very good classic links course in a Celtic sort of way. The rough textures look very crisp and well done on my screen. A lot of sand to get into. You have to be paying attention. With a good wind this is a fun one. My compliments to the designer.
