If you ever want to see how to create a golf course on a very small piece of land, with half of it being filled with water, then take a look at this fantasy oourse, designed by TW Online Mag.
This par 72 is as surprising as the picture illustrating it, which has nothing to do with the course itself. The nice view from the tee of the dogleg par-5 1st hole is a good example, with a... course map displayed on a small board on left side, a small lake on the right, and an island green as a target.
As you will discover, most of the holes are quite scenic, tough-looking, at first, with trees in the way, but playable if you really concentrate and hit precise shots on the fairways. Approach shots, however, are much more challenging with high mounds near tiny greens, a little bit too much, at times, for this course to be classed as a gem...
The par-4 2nd hole is very pretty with its narrow fairway and island green, just like the par-3 4th, with its downhill tee shot over a small lake in front of the tiny green.
The par-4 5th hole, a right dogleg with an elevated green is beautiful, whereas the par-5 6th, a gorgeous left dogleg with an island green, will require you to think twice about club selection if you don't want to get... wet on your second shot !
The next three holes summarize this course : very high rough, island or peninsula greens, tough approach shots... and unreal mounds on the greens.
Speaking of unreal, a giant... satellite dish (!) is what you will see right in front of the left dogleg par-4 10th hole and, again, on the left side of the par-4 11th ! The short par-3 12th hole, quite scenic, will bring you back to reality with the lake in front of its tiny green.
The left dogleg par-5 13th hole is one of the toughest holes on this course with its undulated and heavily sloped fairway, tough second shot and plenty of high rough. As for the par-3 15th hole, it is very picturesque with lots of mounds and its small green.
The par-4 17th hole is another example of what this course is all about : at first, it looks impossible with its very sharp right turn (especially when you click on the "fly-by" option) but, in the end, it turns out that it is very playable after all !
Sadly, this is not the case for the par-5 18th hole, where it is impossible to reach the green on your second shot... as I found out the hard way ! As a result, you will need a very short shot to land on the next patch of green land to have a chance to escape from a nightmarish finish (high rough and water did it for me, as I finished 20 over par !)...
Yet, despite my awful score, this course is a lot of fun and, as jurgie described it below, is very eye-candy. With a very few minor adjustments, mainly less high mounds and tricky greens, this course could definitely be one of the best fantasy courses available, thanks to the great imagination of TW Online Mag !

A nice looking course, but virtually unplayable for this novice.

Scored well over 100, and usually shoot scratch, so very frustrating with so many impossible situations that you find yourself in.

I usually dont comment on fatasy courses because they are not my cup of tea. I am very glad that I downloaded this one however. The texture work along with the terrain work, the abundant islands throughout the ever present water and the water itself are really a work of art. It is obvious that a lot of thought and planning went into this creation. The designer mentioned that a map would be helpfull bring along a seeing eye dog if you own one as well. Yes, the course is tricked up to the max, the fairway undulations, the contour of the tiny greens as well as the landing areas are all very exaggerated. However, it is a fantasy course, right? This design has tremendous amount of eye appeal. If this course had been designed with a more realistic course feel to it like smoothening out a lot of the humps and bumps, enlarging the greens and giving them a more true to life contoured look along with a little tee and bunker edging work, this would be one of the best looking custom designs for 08 yet. Great piece of work TW!
