Hi,

I upgraded to Win 8 Pro over my Windows 7 installation. All of my hardware and settings are the same.

Now when I try to run TW2008 I get the following box: "DirectX is reporting that there is not enough video memory to run the game". Of course everything then shuts down.

I have an AMD Radeon HD 6900 with 2 gigs of video ram. I have the latest drivers. This card ran the game under Win 7 with no complaints.

Any suggestions? Can anyone verify that they've been able to run TW2008 under Windows 8?

Same question over at CGX site and they came to the conclusion that it was a driver problem for some AMD cards when using Windows 8. Nvidia cards seem to work OK with Windows 8 for TW2008.

Same issue on my end also. Finally an answer possibly a driver problem. Hope ATI comes with a fix but with all the newer games coming dont think it will be for older so games i decided to dual boot between 8 & 7.

ATI has a new beta driver that just came out. I personally will not be able to test it for a few days so I cannot vouch for whether it will correct issues. It would maybe worth a read and an install, especially since W8 has a good system restore point function. You can find the announcement here. http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst1211betadriver.aspx

Yes it does play fine thank god for internel drive bays. I really like 8 tad faster more interesting just have to remember F12 lol to pick the 7 hard drive. Sure wouls be nice not to do that but we will see what the future brings for any other updates frOM ATI.

The DirectX reporting not enough memory has plagued the TW franchise since the beginning. I do remember dealing with it once when 08 first came out. I will try and remember what it takes to fix it. By the way what game install media are you using? Is it DVD or Download version. Also are you running the exe we are not allowed to discuss?

Download and use EasyBCD to give you a dual boot screen, then you will not have to remember to press F12, see this forum item

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-8/1055525-solved-how-do-i-set.html

I use Easy BCD to dual boot either Windows 7 or XP

I bought it from MS a digital download $39.95 so it updated 7 to 8 and the hard drive it is on is a raid 0 array. Also dont feel to comfortable or if it is even possible to partion a raid 0 for dual boot. Have done it on a none raid setup in the past tho. Thanks for the info tho. Oh and I did a system image as soon as 8 was complete. Amazing that that it restore back to the original raid volume.

I have TW08 istalled from DVD

With Nvidia 560Ti it works fine in Windows 7 and Windows 8

With AMD Radeon 7870 it works fine in Windows 7 and crashed in Windows 8 with the known

two windows "the game does not support..." "Directx is reporting...."

I think the problem is limited to Radeon 6000 and 7000 series.

I've sent also this issue to AMD/ATI at monday. As yet I get no answer.
I'm not sure that AMD will work for this "old game" in the driver.

Well not only TW 08 but score in futuremark 3d mark vantage P20655 reinstalled 7 in raid array score P24057 this was the highest over clock score i have had on this machine. Prior to Windows 8 was P23625 guess bumping the voltage a tad on the card got me over 24000. So i think in my opinion Windows 8 is not going to be friendly to gamers or power users. So i wasted 39.99 on a download good software for social status updates ,web surfing, etc..... Thanks for the info here all hit em straight and stay out of the water.

When I try to start TW08 I get --

This application is not compatible with the installed operating system.
Please upgrade to Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 or better.

I cannot get further than this. Any suggestions?
