About 12 years ago Hiker Bob did some hole signs for me. He sent the files. Here is the deal, would like to create 15 new hole signs

The .obj file is assigned to the audi.tga
Right now can only do one sign per lib.
If someone could help and re assign the textures creating 15 new .obj files it would help greatly.

For example
File #1
1.obj
1.tga
1.obj.bmp

File 2
2.obj
2.tga
2.obj,bmp

When you open up the LC and you add in a surface structure the file will load the .tga object texture for each file. Than the .bmp file for the CA program.

The signs themselves already have the textures and everything done.

Can someone please help me out with this. Tried to install Gmax and even blender. With Gmax can't load in .obj files. I know some of you that are still around and do structures know how to do these things. Just want to do new British Open hole signs adding in an Irish flavor per say for Portrush.

All I need is the obj file to read and to point to the texture for each hole sign so it can be used in the LC.

Hiya Hyno,

Not sure if this is what you need, but you can find help, and a download link for the obj file on link below:

Good luck

Pat,

You send me to a link were the guy is having a similar problem. The difference being I have zero xp with creating 3D objects. His last post he even says he doesn't understand what he is doing. I keep following your posts in the posts and it is going from thread to thread.

That is not the point.

I have the obj files uploaded to this thread. The hole signs when they were made back in 2007 worked in the game. The lighting is fine and all that.

I am using the 06 LC.

Maybe my question should be is it possible to use a structure than duplicate it in the LC changing the textures of it.

For example Tees and Stakes 04 has, blue, gold, red, white tee markers they are all the same structure but different colors.

Did the creator use one .obj file and just re textured it or did he use a clone copy an assigned the base texture in an outside program?

In both cases I don't know how to do it.

I can no longer make objects. I used Gmax back in the day but no longer have or can find the special exporter file that reformatted for TW OBJ. Otherwise I would have done this for you in no time.

I can only speak for myself, but when I made objects (ie. tees) I made one wire frame object in gmax and applied the red texture and then exported the OBJ text file. Then I applied the blue texture in gmax and re-exported a new OBJ text file. So typically I would only 'build' a repeated object once and re-texture it, but I would do it from inside gmax.

I never messed around with the OBJ text files after the fact, which I think is what you're asking for. It is theoretically possible of course but I don't think that was usually done. I could be wrong.

Basically try your best. If you can find a way great, if not then you're probably out of luck. The reality is this game is over a decade old and the community has almost entirely moved on, both players and designers. As far as I know Tee Off Golf/MSR appears to be the only one still making object libraries. Send a message directly to MSR and ask. If they respond and can help, great.

Otherwise...

Quietly,

Can load the hole sign obj file in the blender program. That is at least a start. Can do 15 libs for 15 hole signs that would work.

MSR Golf,

Do you know how to do this?

Changing textures of an existing structure is easy, can do that all day long. But to create a duplicate structure which has an already assigned texture, with a different texture, well I don''t know how to do that.

Just trying to create hole signs of basically Irish beer and whiskey. If I figure this out maybe should go sell advertising to like Killian''s, Jameson and Smithwick''s. LOL

This post has over 400 views and not one person knows how to do this? I have two complete courses sitting here that all that is needed is custom hole signs to be built.

Ok, I guess the moral of what I''m about to say is "don''t make assumptions".

I assumed in your efforts to create multiple signs from one file that you had tried the most basic thing. Which is why I was trying to think of any other way to do it.

Just do this:

make as many copies of the audi.obj file as you need. rename each one a different name (i. Audi1.obj, Audi2.obj, etc.)

Open notepad, drag audi1.obj into notepad (or open it in notepad)

scroll down to the line that says "usetex Audi.tga"

Change Audi.tga to the name of the new sign graphic ie. "usetex Sign1.tga"

hit save

open the next one (audi2.obj)

scroll down to where it says "usetex Audi.tga" again

replace with "usetex sign2.tga"

hit save.

and so on and so forth.

just make sure you have a TGA file for each sign with the right names in the obj files.

Does anyone want to see any specific billboards? Went in an did a bunch more, kind of turning the British Open in to a minor league baseball team stadium, oh I will have the R&A's heads spinning. Some of the signs, well have noting to do with golf or golf sponsorship, like Mr. Rooter plumbing or Krystal burgers, of course Papa Johns, Red Robin Hamburgers, Hawaiian Punch and lot of others. Only if I could sell the advertisements to these companies. Granted these courses will be lucky to get 100 downloads.
