Course Architect Comments

TPC at Avenel was designed by Ed Ault, Brian Ault, Tom Clark and Bill Love, with player input from Ed Sneed (1986). This land 20 minutes west of the White House was once reserved for a sewage plant, which might be the reason why some early critics of the TPC at Avenel referred to the site of the PGA Tour?s Kemper Open as a dump. Avenel seems to have grown on those who have played it. The major characteristic is it seems to challenge players to use every club in the bag, with a premium placed on strong iron play.
