Downloaded this course some time ago and played it tonight:it plays well, much variety and looking well except the rocks (already mentioned before by Bruce Ryder). Rock formations seems to be THE big problem in TW08 course design. But Martijn, why not leave them away? This is a fantasy course and when you replace the rocks by some nice fir trees, or so, you will create a juwel of a course in my opinion.

Thanks for your comments, Bryder. I'll keep them in mind. As for the rock textures: I haven't found any that work really well. It is either a drab monochrome or a set of rather obviousd repeating patterns because of the way textures work in the CA. It's a compromise, like so much in this game.
I would also like to add that I design my courses to be played more than once, so there will be the occasional hole that requires some practice to get it right. I do realize that that is maybe a bit much to ask, but then again, maybe people who have stuck with this game over the years have more patience than I think. And it is, as far as I know, a "realistic" thing to expect from a golf course...

As a course designer, I look at a course through my designing eyes. The first thing I notice is the textures. Do they work? I thought the rough, fairway, fringe and green textures worked very well together. I only had an issue with the trim around the tee boxes and the rock textures for the mountains. Closeup, the mountain textures did not look that good to me.

Next up is the picky little things. I noticed right away that there were not any tee markers, benches, ball washers, etc. on this course. This to me makes the course less realistic. The bunkers are VERY LARGE and fairly easy to avoid. To me, more and smaller bunkers would be more realistic. I noticed no sound on the course. Where did all the birds go? A course life system would have been nice also.

The elevations are well done. I can only imagine the amount of time spent smoothing everything! The most challenging hole for me (played with game pad) was the 17th. Other than that, I scored a -11 bogey free round using breezy and normal conditions.

Last of all, I thought the course logo, flag, course information and splash screen were not done all that well. With some more work, I believe better and more imaginative designs could have been created and used.

I rate this course below PAR.
