The first of four Blackadder courses, designed by J&M, this par 72 has plenty of colorful trees, soft elevations changes, and some very nice rock formations, seen on quite a few holes, especially on the back 9.
It starts with the nice downhill right dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a couple of small rocks in the corner of a slanted fairway, and continues with the short (about 325 yards) and risky par-4 3rd, downhill all the way to the green, but with a big rock in front and more around it.
On the long par-5 4th hole, you will need to hit a slightly-uphill tee shot before hitting a blind downhill second shot, short of the green, with a big pond on the left, surrounded by high rocks, unlike on the straight par-4 5th where, after a similar tee shot (hopefully) avoiding a big rock in the middle of the fairway, you will have an easier 2nd shot to reach the downhill green.
Then, after hitting another blind and uphill tee shot on the par-5 6th hole, with a slanted fairway, you will reach the pretty par-4 7th, with a hollow wasteland on the left side, (filled with bushes) and an elevated green, before heading for the sharp right dogleg par-5 8th hole where, after a slightly-uphill tee shot, you will have a tough time trying to reach its downhill green on your second shot.
On the back 9, where you will have to avoid more rocks and water, I like the two par-3 holes, the 11th, with a blind and straight donwhill tee shot to the green, and the 12th, again downhill but with a clear view of the green, with a beautiful house behind it and a small basin in front.
But, without a doubt, the most spectacular hole is the par-4 13th (seen on the illustrating picture) with high rocks on both sides, a blind uphill tee shot and a tiered fairway all the way to the elevated green !
The last few holes are nice too : the right dogleg par-4 14th is downhill with a lake on the left side, and the left dogleg par-5 15th hole has a lake, way below on the left side, and more rocky hills further to the right, not far from the elevated green.
Finally, after the straight downhill par-4 16th hole, with four small rocks in the middle of the fairway to watch for, you will face the challenging par-5 18th hole, with a rocky hill on the left side, a blind uphill shot going... downhill (with a big rock in the middle) and another blind shot downhill to the green !
As usual with elevated holes, choosing the right clubs will often determine your final score, and this course is no exception and a nice challenge to face before... heading for the other three Blackadder courses...

I wish course designers would take a little more thought when putting outrageous elevations on courses. Number one, they aren't fun to play going uphill and downhill like a rollercoaster every shot. Number two, they never add up correctly when choosing a club for the distance plus or minus the elevation or declination. One hole your hitting from the fairway to the green with an uphill approach of 20 yards, so you take an extra club to get there and you go 20 yards over the green. Sometimes just the opposite for a downhill approach. But then the next hole your calculation works fine. I'm not saying elevations on fairways are bad but not when you have 40-50 yards up/or down. Sorry for the bad review. Poor design in my opinion.

Ditto golfrick007's sentiments, with the exception of the rock wall on the 18th. I managed to keep to the fairway, although my virtual opponent tried to use the wall & ended up in the rough after bouncing across the fairway. Must try the other Blackadder courses...

Enjoyed the course, great layout and play-ability for the most part. What I though was odd, was your greens didn't seem up to your usual smooth style, they seemed to have come out of another pair of designers handbook. Otherwise, nice pair of courses fellas. Thanks

Sorry it took so long to get my report in on this course. First off love all the rock work, Great layout and by the time you get to hole 13 this hole is awsome! the last 5 or so holes are the best at showing off this course design. I even used the rock wall along hole 18 to get down the fairway. Also A few of the holes have rock garden in the middle of some of the fairways fun to try and shoot around. ***** Thanks JJ & Neil.
