On this pretty course, designed by Wizards, with small hills as a panorama and nice plantings, you will have to be patient if you want to finish with a low score as this par 72, despite its wide fairways, can spell trouble if you cannot manage to avoid the water hazards, mostly near the greens, present on quite a few holes.
The front 9 starts with the left dogleg par-4 1st, with a big pond, right in front of the tee box, and a winding stream flowing across the fairway, midway, and past the green, on the right.
Another approach over a serpentine creek awaits you on the straight par-4 3rd hole with, again, water running past the green, before moving on further to the postcard-like par-3 5th, with a tee shot over a crescent-shaped lake, with a lone tree in the middle, and going back the other... way, on the par-3 7th hole with, this time, the lake to the right of the green.
As for the par-4 9th hole, you will need to hit a blind tee shot along the fairway, hugging a stream on the left (starting midway), before hitting a tough approach to the green, surrounded halfway by water, set next to a beautiful clubhouse.
Coming back, you will start with the left dogleg par-4 10th hole, slightly-uphill all the way, with a tee shot over another stream flowing across, halfway, before heading, after the cute downhill par-3 12th, to the challenging left dogleg par-5 13th hole, with a blind tee shot over short trees, hopefully landing beyond a stream flowing across midway (and running all along the fairway on the left), and a long and uphill second shot to the elevated green.
Then, on the dogleg par-5 15th hole, whose slanted fairway is lined up with trees, planted all along on a hilltop on the left, you will need to hit a blind downhill tee shot followed by another blind (and very long) approach toward the green, guarded by a big bunker in front and under the watchful eyes of a couple of... hippos floating in the wide lake, on the right !
Finally, after the scary but very scenic par-3 16th hole, and its tee shot over the lake landing onto a peninsula green, you will face the 18th (the third par-5 on the back 9), where, after hitting a blind and downhill tee shot, you will have to aim a very accurate approach if you want to reach the gorgeous peninsula (looking more like an island) green, surrounded by water, in order to admire the clubhouse, set next to it.
With its beautiful design and its challenging holes, this Leopard Creek course is a definite keeper but, if you would like to see it in a championship mode, then you should also check GGX’s A & B versions (yes, it was supposed to be CGX, but it came out misspelled that way !).
P.S. And don't worry, in all these versions, you will see those... hippos !

WOW
Just played this course this morning to get ready for it on the Clam tour this week. Great course, and I enjoyed my round alot. I had to think very hard about every shot, and I'm not to greet at this game, but with me having to think so much about my shots. I think it made me play a little better than I usually do.

Love the details done on this course, plantings are done very well, and the cart-path work is some of the best I've seen in my short career playing Tiger Woods so far. Can't wait to play this in the real tournament coming up this week on the Clam tour. The finishing hole is done so well, and the clubhouse spot is very pleasing on the eyes. I play against myself each round when practicing because this sorta simulates a little pressure for me while playing. The 15th hole gave me fits because I couldn't get my drives onto the fairway into a head wind, and got caught behind the trees on the left, but I love that hole at the same time. The Hippo's were a cool touch too........ :)

Played Very dry greens, breezy, heavy rough, difficult pins, and for my skill. This course was a good test, but not brutal to where I didn't get rewarded for a good shots. Now only if I could putt worth a darn to take advantage of good approach shots........ :P

Great Work

Simply put, this course is outstanding. Everything about it is superb. I love all the attention to detail here, from the footpaths
leading to the fairways to the wonderful local sounds heard throughout. Excellent bunker work and the planting is second to none.
This course is truly a joy to play and I'm sure that I'll be playing it many more times in the future. Thanks so much for bringing
us this African delight. Surely it's a five star design.

This is a great course. Fair to all skills, but a course where you must plan your shots, even to the green (for the one with the sand bunker in it). It challenges your skill while remaining a fun course to play. I also give it a 5!

Very nice work, wiz. Only little point of criticism might be that i thought the banks of the stream looked a bit neat, if you know what I mean. But maybe that's how they look on the real course, I don't know. Other than that a very beautiful design.

Having lived in RSA, I very much enjoyed your course. Would love to see you take on the challenge of doing my favorite course of all time, the Royal Swazi Sun. That would challenge any designer with all its great elevation changes on the back nine. How about Wanderers? Maybe get the stadium with a cricket or rugby match going, that was fun hearing the crowd noise during your round!

I should also mention (for a little info) that Leopard Creek Country Club is an exclusive club. Membership is by invite only and on the basis of a share holing of the 360 hectare estate with the purchase of a plot to build on. To play on Leopard Creek is also by invitation only.

Leopard Creek is about 70Km or 1 hour drive form the closest town of Nelspruit, so the course is quite remote and even at the Dunhill Championship there are fewer spectators than you would find at any other event.

I'm glad you all are enjoying the course, a little bit of exclusivity that you and i will probably never experience in the real world,

This course is sensational. You can score well here, but you must place your approach shot carefully as the greens are large and undulating.

I've not been to Leopard Creek, but have spent some time in Nelspruit, not too far away from here and the scenery, pano and vegetation are stunningly accurate for that region. I particularly like the butterflies chasing the flies around.

A five star rating from me, and many more rounds to come here. Brilliant.

Not sure how the beta snuck past me, but this one is a real treat to play for the first time. I really like the large rolling hills around the perimeter. I might have elected to go without a pano since those look so nice (also the pixels along the edge of the pano caught my eye). Fabulous detail work with the beautiful plantings -- love the rocks/tree in the middle of the pond on hole 5. The little paths from the tees are a nice touch. My favorite part of the course would be the 9th/18th -- what a gorgeous view looking at the clubhouse and the shimmering water. Great work on the stone wall around that pond. Nice touch with the local sounds, too. This one is a keeper. Keep up the great work, Rowan.

Rowan, I appreciate you letting me test this for you! It is a great representation of what looks to be a beautiful course. Also, it's always nice to have choices from many different countries.
