Boy, I never had so much fun while getting whipped on a course.
Very tight fairways, and you don't want to go in the ruff on this course or you better bring a weed whacker with ya, but I loved every minute of it. Loved the bunkers too, and when I was hitting out of one during my round. the ball shot straight up only going 15 yds or so but, it was so cool at the same time. This course made me think real hard if the reward was even worth the danger I could get into. After getting in trouble on the first few holes trying to thread the needle. I laid up sometimes instead of trying to reach the green in regulation, and that was even on Par 4's too. Was able to save +7 & +3 scores by playing for par instead of going for it & finding deep trouble. Played with very dry greens, breezy, heavy, morning, cloudy, and difficult pins. I don't even want to think about gusty or strong winds quite yet on this baby because I'm pretty new to TW, and that would be a ruff day at the office for me, I think.

I love links style courses, and I like how this course had lucky & unlucky bounces during my round. Greens were a challenge, but I love these kinda greens that have double breakers, and rolling hill spots....
The designer did a good job with the work I was looking at, and I would recommend this course without question............. :)

Thanks for your answer, but I have only a TW 2008 version. Maybe you can send me by email this library file?

Thanks!

After further review of this course, the finding is, if you set the galleries to medium, grass to low, you can leave the tree animations on. 95% of the time the course will run fine. The better your video card and system, well..... Again it is up to the player to find the best settings for them. Take the Carnoustie Challenge, setting the rough to heavy and wind to Gusty and see how low you can go.

As Vexxboy said previously I am unable to play this as I dont have the 2007 version. I have 2003, 2006, and 2008! Dont think I can justify the purchase just to play courses requiring the 2007 stock libraries. Its a shame you felt it neccessary to use one of those libraries, but the even bigger shame is that EA Sports hasnt given us access to those libraries. In any case, it was a real disappointment. Looks like a good rendition of a great course!

Great course, best rendition of The Nasty yet! really get the feel of the course now.

No problems on my system, Quad Core with ATI Radeon X1950 pro and Xtreme G Warcat ATI modded drivers. A suggestion for all the guys out there with lower end systems try starting with a clean boot and disable all backround apps, may help.

Hyno, will you be making Oakmont 08 your 2nd master child any time soon?

Everyone’s points here is well taken. I know what kinds of courses are possible and to not be able to provide them in a working order for everyone is very frustrating. I don’t want to waste the player’s time, if the course works great, if you need to lower your specs please do. To go in to the course and strip out some of the detail is possible, but to find the means that it will work for everyone is not. Feedback is for sure needed I don’t care if this course has 150 comments, but let me know if you have problems or if you don’t. After enough feedback is left, a decision can be made to see what direction should be taken.

Hyno, I totally see your point. The CA is a frustrating tool. I wish it were a bit better also. I wish I could just tell it: build me a bunker over there, and just sit back and watch it do it all by itself. You see my point? If you are a course designer, you are an artist of sorts. An artist has to adapt to the limitations of the medium he is working with. A painter doesnt gripe that his work is only two-dimensional. I know that there is a difference - the CA is created in a certain way and could be changed in all sorts of ways. But that just isnt going to hasppen. I think we all need to resign to the fact that tha CA is what it is. If you want to write a sonnet, you shouldnt complain if you cant find words to rhyme. That only means you have used the wrong words or havent looked hard enough to find them. In other words: Stop complaining, please. If you need a better videao card, by all means, get one. If some people cant pley your courses, too bad. Just give the specs you think a pc needs, so players with less than state-of-the-art machines know they wont have to bother. The way you are behaving you sound like a child who keeps complaining that his Xmas toy isn t exactly what he had in mind.

Not going to make up any excuses here. Point blank, this course may crash for some of you. I am sorry for that. The game should be able to handle these types of courses, but on some machines it just can’t. Basically in short, EA sports needs to get on the ball an allow the game to handle more data. That is my feeling. I don’t want to create something that is stripped down. Carnoustie on the other hand is at the other side of the spectrum. Like all of you, when the darn thing crashes to desktop, you waste time re-loading it up. I am in the same boat as many of you, I need to go get that 512mb video card that poohween has. This is 2008, we live in an advanced era, honestly this game could be so amazing if the people at EA wanted to create it that way, and allow for amateur designer to enhance their program. Right now we are limited to the stuff we can do on a course. If this were done on their end, the effects that the designers could do would be doubled. On the tech side of things. You have something like 17&18 on this course. The holes run in to each other. You can’t cross shapes in the CA program, to blend them in to each other with a burn running through, and make it look natural, having different color roughs, is not the norm for this game. You are going to have a shape with over 2000 points. Lets not forget about the 1st tee box is also part of this. Than add in about 100 structures on just those 2 holes. In short, maybe EA sports needs to finally release this course for the PC and not just the X-box 360. This is really sad, but I can pick up some of the details they missed on their course...They never updated 3 or 6, so the holes are wrong......

I am going to put my 2 cents worth in here only because I have told you before that I like all your designs from the past and this course is no exception. With all your courses at least in my case, Tree Distance Detail has always been the issue. By turning it off, it has certainly prevented your courses from crashing. from personal experience, I know that a faster CPU as well as a higher end graphics card make your courses and others similar, run much smoother and with fewer compromises as far as ingame settings are concerned. As far as resoloutions go, I run all 07 and 08 customs at my 22 widescreens native res. which are 1680x1050. Having said that, I will tell you that your courses are the only ones in 07 or 08 that I had to either turn Tree Distance Detail off or set to low to prevent a crash somewhere during the round. I have never mentioned this in any comments of your designs in 06 or prior because turning the Tree Distance off in the earlier designs seemed to have only minor visual effect on the overall appearance of the courses. Starting in 07, and especially true in the 08 game with Tree Distance Detail off, there is a significant difference in visual quality, not just in your 08 Carnoustie course but all 07 and especially 08 customs. There might be a little food for thought here.

PhilT, I enclosed a read me file with this course. I am very aware of issues. It would have been really easy to delete structures, pull out objects, and remove shapes. But it was decided to not take away from the course. Even removing all that stuff, would only make a difference for a few. This course is my master child it has everything on it. Galleries, TV cameras, Hole Signs, Water Coolers, Benches, Advertisement Signs, Gallery Ropes, the Town of Angus, Green Huts, Burns, Weed Rough, Bunker Rough, Sod Bunker Walls, Rolling Terrain, Holes from the other course next to Carnoustie, Gorse Bushes, Tents and finally the Carnoustie Hotel. I dont work for EA, and this is not the X-box 360, for the limited resources available this course turn out really good. Please understand unless you have some monster system you are going to have to lower the settings. I’ll be honest, it doesn’t t matter that the course crashed on hole 5, it could have happened on any hole. The good news is last years course has about 4,000 + Downloads and only a hand full reported problems. This is basically the same course.

i know you used the best library for the gorse but as i dont have 07 disc anymore that stops me playing this course and anyone else that has only 08, which is a shame

Some adjustments were made to the course since the 07 release. Manly holes 3 & 6 were updated to reflect the changes. The course was re-planet with 08 stock libs. After searching for new gorse bushes, nothing seemed to fit the course correct, so the 07 Aviara ones remain. The 08 game is a little different than 07, in that in the settings to turn the Tree animations off, one needs to turn Tree Distance Detail off. There is a READ ME enclosed, please read it before loading up the course. I understand that some of you may have game play issues with the course, please follow the directions in the READ ME file, it will help resolve many of the problems.
