A pleasant par 71 course, pretty to look at with 2 windmills and its water wheel over a small serpentine river, a couple of stone houses and log cabins, and wide open with undulating fairways and greens, often surrounded by large and/or elongated bunkers, making it quite challenging at times. on the front 9, I like the very long (more than 620 yards) par-5 2nd hole, with a small river and a water wheel (on the left) where, despite hitting a slightly-uphill tee shot landing near large bunkers, midway, you won’t be able to reach the green on your second shot (with three wide bunkers in front to worry about), and the left dogleg par-4 4th, with a slightly-uphill tee shot and a downhill approach to the green. The par-3 7th hole is nice too, with a wide and elongated bunker in front and to the left of the green, (whose putting line is hard to read with a few small mounds on it), just like the straight par-4 8th, with two big bunkers narrowing the fairway near its slightly-elevated and sloped green, and the straight par-4 9th, downhill all the way with large bunkers in front of the green (left and right). On your way back, you will start with my favorite hole, the scenic and quite challenging par-5 10th, with a downhill tee shot landing short of a serpentine river and a blind approach over it (and a few small trees) to reach the elevated green (with a big slope all around), before moving on to the tricky par-4 11th, with a slanted fairway and a huge elongated bunker (on the left) splitting it across and ending near the green (on the right). On the short par-4 12th hole, you won’t be able to reach the undulating green from the tee box, with bunkers guarding it in front, unlike on the par-4 16th where, despite a huge elongated bunker, surrounding the fairway halfway, midway, you should have a birdie opportunity on the green, set slightly to the left. You will complete your round with two similar right dogleg par-4 holes, the 17th, slightly uphill all the way, and the 18th, with its slightly-downhill green... Overall, while this Circle Course @ Nergenshuizen is not the most difficult one you will ever face (with plenty of straight holes), you will have to be careful to avoid all those bunkers and make a few putts to fully enjoy this nice layout from M.G.A.
