I’ve got exciting news for the Links Community! Hot on the heels of the successful Tex Murphy Kickstarter campaign, TruGolf, the original development team for LINKS, wants to do one for a new golf game! The Tex Murphy Kickstarter raised over $600,000 and the goal for this one is $300,000 to 400,000.
The new golf game will support the popular devices including PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad or Android. The golf software will be a new version of the E6 golf engine which is used in simulators throughout the world. They also want to introduce an additional way to play the game. TruGolf has miniaturized their life size golf simulator down to the size of a credit card which connects to your device via Bluetooth. With this "pocket simulator" you'll be able to shape your shots(draw, fade, hook, slice) the same way you could on a full size simulator. Supporting 4 different club types, with the wave of your hand you can drive 300 yards on Castle Pines or chip your way out of a deep bunker on St Andrews.
The goal here is to go back to simplicity and allow you to play with the true feel and mechanics of real golf. This is a true simulator that not only models accurate fundamentals but is really fun to play. The graphics are so stunning it's like enjoying the splendor of being on the course in the early morning playing golf. The only thing missing is the smell of fresh cut grass.
If you haven’t heard of Kickstarter it’s a “crowd funding” web site that lets you pre-order the game before it’s been developed by making a pledge. A funding goal is set over a certain time frame - usually around 30 days. If the goal is met your pledge is collected at the end of the campaign. If the goal is not met, you don’t pay anything and the project gets scrapped.
TruGolf is trying to get the word out to see if anyone is interested in joining a Kickstarter for this golf game. Show them your support by signing this petition:
http://www.change.org/petitions/trugolf-start-a-kickstart-campaign-for-a-new-golf-game
This is just to gauge interest to see if it's worth it for TruGolf to look at building a new golf game. So if you're interested in seeing something new sign the petition!

btw, two things that I know for sure.
1. You will be able to play without the "pocket simulator" just as you do now.
2. I don't know anything else. I was asked if I could put the word out to see how much interest there is in a new version of "Links".
Also, feel free to repost and spread the word.

Mark - when you know more, please post it. 4 different club types? Woods, Irons, Chips and Putts? Wave your hand?
Worth signing up just to find out more.

WOW!!! If we can play this on our computers like we play Links I will support it. IF Links courses can be ported to the new format fairly easily. I do not want to lose all of the great courses our designers have created for us.
Jerry
edit:
After my posted reservations and then reading more info on LC and apcd.com I have Signed the site. Specially since it does not yet require a monetary value support.
There are 23 of 100 so far. Lets support it to get to 100 and see where it goes from there. I do NOT want this possibility to die for lack of support.

Thanks Jerry! And you are correct this petition is something I started just to see if there is an interest out there. There is no obligation. Once we've found that a LOT of poeple want a new golf game then TruGolf begin a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money.
